Cost: 2500 ₪+ 200 ₪ Non refundable Registration Fee.

Payment by Cash, Check or Credit Card. All fees must be paid up to one week before the course starts. If paying by Credit Card, tuition may be paid in installments of no less than 250 ₪ /mo for a maximum of 10 months.  If paying by check, checks must be paid in advance and can be post dated until the course completion date. Cash – tuition must be paid in full before the course begins. Fundraising is both an art and a skill.  Reduced to its simplest

expression, it is the act of asking a person, or group of people, for a gift of money for a worthy social cause.  Over the years, the professional fund-raising process has become well established.  While each program, institution or organization has its own special characteristics and dynamics, the principles of successful fundraising are basically the same.

While all fundraising is based on the acquisition of funding, different types of projects require different approaches, different planning and preparation, and the application of different skill sets.

5. The World of Foundations

While not the largest source of philanthropic funding, foundation support has its own advantages, and disadvantages.  There are many types of foundations, and many rules and tips to the foundations game.

6. How to Write a Grant:  I

Grant writing is one of the most misunderstood aspects in the fundraising process.  Grantsmanship is not rocket science, but you have to know what you are doing.  The next three sessions will be based on the ten key principles of grant writing and include writing exercises.  Principles I – III

9. Other Funding Sources: Jewish Federations and Individuals

Jewish Federations are a good funding source for local projects, as well as for some projects in Israel.  By what rules do they play?

Much more than foundations, individuals constitute the largest funding category in the world of philanthropy. Do people give to people or to causes?  How does one successfully approach, cultivate and solicit an individual donor for financial support?

10.The Internet and Social Networks: A Brave New World for Fundraising?

Over the last decade, the Internet has become a major highway for fundraising and development.  Yet, it, too, has its advantages and disadvantages.  What is the most effective use of this constantly developing technology?

11. Due diligence, transparency, accountability

These concepts are currently hot topics in philanthropic circles.  What do they mean and how significant are they?

12.Fundraising culture in the U.S. and Israel and Where to Go from Here?

Values and cultural norms underlie all fundraising. How are American and Israeli societies similar and different in this area?

Helpful resources for both job opportunities and funding sources

Class readings will come mainly from the Internet and will reflect the main subject of each lecture.  They will also reflect the most current issues in the world of philanthropy and fundraising.  Some book articles may also be handed out.

Class discussion will include real life examples from the lecturers own experience.
